Especially for Paul...

I was having so much fun, I decided to record a second song.  I did "Just The Way You Are" in a higher key to spare your ears and my voice.

I ordered a converter so I can plug a decent mic in.  Hope to get it tomorrow and hope it makes a difference.

  1. That would sound better if I had a real mic... but it's not too bad for not having done any singing recently.

    1. Really, really nice. Seriously impressed. Nice song choices too. Forget posting other peoples music. More of this. Do you song write, or play guitar? What's interesting is no accent, or perhaps I'm so used to the US accent on songs. I love that 'Angel' tune. I'm guessing it's a country ballad or similar. Do you like Townes van Zandt? I love those old country ballads.

    2. Thanks Paul. I re-subscribed to SingSnap so I could make those recordings.

The first song is "Angel From Montgomery" by Bonnie Raitt (and sometimes John Prine-- he wrote the song). That particular arrangement is supposed to be for a duet. Bonnie Raitt used to do country-ish songs back in the 70s, but now she's more bluesy.

I do like Townes Van Zandt.

    3. Oh... and I've never really tried to write a song, except to make up bawdy lyrics to other songs. I used to know a few guitar chords, but not enough that you'd want to hear me play. I'm only slightly better on the piano. I took lessons as a little kid, but gave it up because I hated practicing. I have studied voice and actually sang more operatic stuff at first. Singing comes very easily and naturally to me, though, so that's probably why I stick with it. I wish I had stuck with the piano and/or guitar. I'd love to be able to play my mom's piano, which I inherited.

    4. What do you think of setting up a channel on YouTube just with your own recordings? Maybe even write your own material. You've got the voice, no question.

    5. Thank you. As you can see, I'm kind of camera shy. I don't even really like listening to my own recordings much. I like to sing into a mic that amplifies, especially if I'm drinking champagne or beer at the same time!

In all seriousness, I do enjoy performing, especially if it's low key. I used to do karaoke every week at the officer's club when we lived in an Army post. I got out of doing that when we started moving a lot... Last time I got to sing for an audience was on SeaDream I. I sang at the piano bar for my husband and it quickly turned into a concert. It was a lot of fun, but people react differently to people who can sing. I managed to charm a bunch of Norwegians, though! They took a bunch of photos of me looking all bloated and sunburnt!

  2. You're too hard on yourself. See what you think of this Townes Van Zandt song. I think it would suit your voice. I'd love to hear you do this sometime.

    1. I like Gillian Welch! I wasn't familiar with that song. I love the harmonies!

    2. I've got Gillian Welch and Dave Rawling's 'Harrow and the Harvest' album. Pick it up if you see it around. It's fantastic.

  3. I want you to know that my formerly quashed karaoke addiction has now been re-ignited.

  4. Nice, really nice. I know 'Nothing at all' from the movie Notting Hill sung by Ronan Keating. Prefer your version. It'll be interesting to see what difference the mic will make. By the way, do you have red hair or is that just the pic?

    1. My hair is sort of strawberry blonde. It's colored, but the color is mostly to cover up gray. I was born blonde and as I got older, it got darker and kind of reddish. My hair was a little wet when that picture was taken, which makes it look a little darker.

    2. It's the wee Scots lassie coming through.
