Ambrosia!

When I was coming along, I really liked Ambrosia.  No, I'm not talking about the salad.  I'm referring to a band that was popular in the late 70s and early 80s.  They had several hits that were staples on adult contemporary radio channels.  Hailing from southern California, they had a slick, polished, radio friendly sound that made good use of saxophones, organs, and soaring lead vocals.

This morning, I decided to listen to a little Ambrosia.  The first song was their big hit, "Biggest Part of Me".

This song is very sweet and sensual and never gets old...

The next song is the very slinky and sexual "You're The Only Woman".  I remember this song being very popular in the early 80s when we first moved to Gloucester, Virginia.  When I hear it now, it reminds me of being really young and discovering horses.  That wasn't necessarily a happy time in my life, but I can look upon it with fondness now.  I have kind of a love/hate relationship with the early 80s... and Gloucester County, for that matter.  It's kind of a breezy love song.

Sigh...  I might melt if someone sang this to me...  as long as they sang it well.

"Holdin' On To Yesterday" has sort of a mournful intensity to it...

For some reason, when I hear "How Much I Feel", it reminds me of living in Fairfax County in the late 70s.  We were knee deep in suburbia at a time when the DC area wasn't quite as crazy as it is now.  I have fond memories of that time and actually really missed DC after we moved.  But when I had to live there again, I liked it less.  It was probably a blessing that we lived on Fort Belvoir, which was kind of an oasis from DC crowds.

Yeah, they've really got the sensual wail down pat...

I miss bands like Ambrosia.  I never thought it would happen, but I seem to have turned into my parents.  The new stuff just doesn't interest me too much anymore.  I'm a sucker for a good love song.
