Truly shitty cover songs...

This morning, I'm sitting here reading reviews I wrote of old albums.  As I came of age in the 1970s and 80s, there were some truly shitty covers done.

Behold...

Now, I truly love James Taylor's music.  In fact, I might even like this cover he did of The Beatles' "Day Tripper"... but I have to admit, the disco flavor of this song is ill advised.

Or how about this truly shitty cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire"?  This video is not of Olivia Newton John, who sings this trainwreck of a cover, but I thought the drag queen was too funny not to post...

Speaking of Olivia, how about this horrible cover Happy Hardcore did of her classic hit, "Have You Never Been Mellow"?  This is the stuff of nightmares!

The Beatles are bastardized again with Lorrie Morgan's take on their hit, "Eight Days A Week"...

I love Kate Bush's music, but I can't say I like what she did to Elton John's "Candle In The Wind".  It's not right.

I have to admit, I find Dolly Parton's remake of "Stairway to Heaven" sort of a guilty pleasure... It's not as bad as it could be!  But I know a lot of Led Zeppelin fans would beg to differ!

But perhaps the worst cover I've ever heard...  and I've heard a LOT of shitty covers... is "American Pie" by The Brady Bunch!

  1. These are some interesting covers. My favorite cover ever was a version of "Games people play" that was done by James Taylor and was played on
"House, MD" on the thanksgiving episode where Cuddy outsmarted house by leaving fake clues as to where she would be celebrating Thanksgiving dinner. I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

  2. I'm a big JT fan and I hadn't even heard of that. But then, I don't watch "House, MD", even though my husband thinks I'd love that show. Now I'm curious. Might have to watch just so I can hear that cover.
