Pretty ballad, "Until You"...
I discovered Dave Barnes in 2008 on an episode of Army Wives. His song "Crazyboutya" was used in an episode and I was struck by its catchy-ness. I downloaded the album it came from, Brother, Bring The Sun and liked it so much that I downloaded a few more of his albums.
I think what I like about Dave Barnes is that his music reminds me of the good pop from the 70s and 80s. He's six years younger than I am and when I listen to his music, it makes me think he must have either had older siblings or raided his parents' music collection.
Dave Barnes plays "Crazyboutya" live.
He has a silky smooth southern voice, too. I like his arrangements, which have a wholesome pop appeal that might even appeal to country fans. He really seems to specialize in soulful songs that ache with longing.
"Someday Sarah" has sort of a breezy sound to it. The melody kind of reminds me of "Lotta Love" by Nicolette Larsen.
Some people might find Dave Barnes a little too pop and pedestrian for their tastes, but I really like his sound. And there aren't that many current artists I can say that about, I'm afraid. Guess I'm getting old.
