Last night, I was messing around on YouTube and I came across this gem of a performance...
It made me smile because when I was a sophomore in college, a woman in my voice studio sang this. I remember it very clearly because she was one of two musical theater majors (the musical theater major was brand new at the time). This particular performer was very talented and frequently starred in the productions put on by our theater department.
So I posted this on my Facebook wall and tagged my old friend, who had completely forgotten about it! She thought it was funny that I would remember. I do have a mind like a steel trap when it comes to random memories of non-sensical things, but my memory of her singing this was really burned on the brain. She had the whole act down complete with facial expressions and movements.
My mom saw my old friend do this at a recital and was very impressed. I also performed in the recital and had a brainfart in the middle of my performance. I forgot the words to an Italian aria by Mozart.
My old friend, by the way, now lives in New York City. I imagine she's making good use of her education there.
A week from today, I will be performing at my dad's memorial service and I have been practicing so I don't have another brainfart. I hope I can keep my emotions in check. I guess it's a good thing I get to sing first, since once people start talking about my dad, I am liable to fall apart.

It's kind of like halfway between "O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion" and "Every Valley Shall be Exalted." Cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd the person singing in the above clip is a guy, too! I'm impressed by his range!
