Theme song king, Dan Foliart...

I've wasted most of today watching a truly horrible show from 1995, University Hospital.  As I've been watching it, it occurs to me that this medical themed show from Aaron Spelling had music in it that reminded of a much longer running Spelling creation, 7th Heaven.

The pilot episode for University Hospital...

The music used in this show is kind of non-descript... except for the heavy use of saxophone.  It occurred to me that whoever composed the music for the show must have also composed it for 7th Heaven.  So I went looking and found that both shows had Dan Foliart in common.  The similarities between the background music used on both shows is uncanny.

You can hear some of the music in this clip from 7th Heaven...

Dan Foliart also composed for Roseanne, a show I never got into.

I don't know for certain, but I guess Mr. Foliart is a sax player.

I'm certain there have been plenty of shows Dan Foliart has made music for.  I was just surprised by how unmistakable his musical stamp is.  In fact, as I look at his entry on imdb.com, I see a lot of the shows I used to love as a kid use his music.

I also see that Ken Harrison also made music for University Hospital.  I hear his stamp, too... because some of the music sounds like what was used on the first incarnation of Melrose Place, especially in the early episodes.  How funny... the music on a long defunct and short lived TV series sounds like a marriage between two long established TV music composers.
