Ugh... a 2010 version
I had totally forgotten about this old hit by the English band, Status Quo. This song was popular in 1986, at the height of the Cold War. It was originally sung by South African-born Dutch duo Rob and Ferdi Bolland, who recorded it in 1981 and charted with it. I've always thought this was kind of a weird song. The melody seems kind of bleak and depressing and the lyrics are a bit cynical.
Bolland and Bolland's version...
This song was originally anti-war, but it was re-released in 2010 with more war friendly lyrics...
A live version by Status Quo in 1986...
I think of this song today, because I see it's being offered as a featured karaoke song on SingSnap. I won't be singing it. It brings back too many weird 80s era memories for me. Still, it qualifies as a fine entry for the Dungeon Of The Past.
