And the beautiful "Godspeed by Beth Nielsen Chapman..
I would love to record this one myself and I actually have the sheet music for it. Just wish I could play it. Bill hasn't seen either of these videos yet. I have a feeling they'll make him cry. I got all mushy as I made them.
I really love Beth Nielsen Chapman's music. Yesterday, while messing around on SingSnap, I discovered a couple of her songs were listed that I knew and can sing somewhat decently. Both were songs she had apparently written in tribute to her late husband, who died in 1994 of cancer. Beth Nielsen Chapman is herself a cancer survivor. I find her melodies beautiful and her lyrics very moving. I can tell that she and her husband shared a special love for each other.
She has also written a number of songs for popular singers like Trisha Yearwood, Willie Nelson, Alabama, and a shitload of others I can't think of right now. I think some of the singers who perform her faster songs are better singers than she is, though when she sings the songs that are dedicated to her husband, I think there's no better singer. I really respect her. She's a fellow Air Force brat, too.
The first song is "I Find Your Love"...
I couldn't find her version of "Touch My Heart" on YouTube. I covered it myself, though. It's after my version of "I Find Your Love".
Despite my ribald sense of humor, I seem to have a knack for jazz and pretty ballads. I played this for Bill last night and he cried. I can always tell when his emotions are tweaked. He's very Irish.
All this recording is sharpening my skills on the computer, too. I do need to take another vacation so I can add new photos. Or maybe I should just get brave and use some pictures of Bill and me. Of course, when you do that, you invite the meanies to comment.
Today is the 25th anniversary of Andy Gibb's untimely death at age 30. I'm also listening to music and a couple of good funeral songs just came on. I suspect when I die, I won't know what music plays at my funeral or if anyone will even bother having one for me. But I got to thinking about songs I like... and would want played at my funeral. I know I've done this before... sorta. When we lost our dog, MacGregor, back in December, I posted about songs that bring me comfort. But just now, I was listening to a beautiful Beth Nielsen Chapman song that I would want played at my funeral. If I outlive my husband and can stand it, maybe I'll sing it. I even have the sheet music.
Okay, so this video is a tribute to Princess Diana, but I think it's fitting for anyone who has died...
"Sand and Water", also by Beth Nielsen Chapman, is a good song for a funeral.
I also love "Psalm 23", specifically by Eden's Bridge... (an Irish Christian band)
But what if the dearly departed had a sense of humor? In that case, how about these songs?
I would like this one at my service...
What if you'd like to remember your loved one in a happy way?
I never really gave this song much thought as a good funeral song until we adopted our new dog, Arran, and this song randomly popped up on my iPod. It seemed like our old dog MacGregor was sending us a message and by the time it was over, I was crying...
Seriously, though... for me, the top three songs would be good ones at my service. I hope someone's still cares enough to attend by then.
And again, I do love "On Heaven's Bright Shore", too... would love to have the sheet music for this...
Some time ago, I made playlists for my iMac. I usually play them on weekends, when my husband and I are at home together. I made an 80s list, a 70s list, a holiday mix, and a "comforting" playlist. Basically, this is a list of songs that are "comforting", no matter which decade they came from. I find the older I get, the more I want to listen to comforting music. I no longer care too much about the edgiest, newest stuff, though I still enjoy it to an extent. I like music that makes me feel good and relaxes me. I figure as long as I don't start listening to Muzak, I'm okay.
Today, I turned on the mix because I felt like making bread and figured that called for a little baking music. I've had the mix on all day. I'm trying to listen to as much as possible, because I have it set to play in order of plays. The songs I've listened to most often play first and so on. I have so many songs on my comforting mix, though, that some songs never get played. It's not because I don't like them. I just never get to them.
I suppose I could rearrange the list, but I always end up changing it back to the number of plays...
So I've heard a lot of...
And so many others before I get even close to the end of the mix...
Good thing my husband is so patient and doesn't mind when I get in the mood to be soothed.
