I discovered this classic song by watching The Muppet Show. Linda Ronstadt was a guest star and this was her second number. I have already blogged about that here in my Dungeon of the Past, but since I've been moving and not doing much music lately, I got inspired this morning to see if I could sing that pretty song, too. Lo and behold, I did find a suitable karaoke track. I changed the original key and recorded it on SingSnap and then put it on Audition and changed the key to something more appropriate for my vocals.
When I have more time (and privacy, since Bill is home), I will make a video with it. I think my videos turn out better than SingSnap because they don't rely on Internet speed and don't end up with timing issues.
We don't have a regular Internet connection right now, so this recording-- which sounds fine on my end-- may be messed up on other peoples' ends. I made a recording the other day and someone said the timing was way off, though it seemed fine when I listened to it. But anyway, this is what I've done so far.
I may later try it in a different key that would have me singing higher, but I wouldn't go for the dramatic ending if I do that. Don't want to sound like a pipsqueak.
This is a really lovely, romantic standard from 1934 with music by Sigmund Romberg and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II that doesn't get enough airplay. I would like to eventually try to do it justice. Besides, I need to start using all these Adobe tools I now have, since they're costing me $50 a month.
ETA: I recorded this today. I used Audition to change the key and then did the actual recording with Garage Band. I might try some harmonies with it next. It's simple and would probably be pretty with a little contrast.
I re-recorded in a higher key...
And then added two harmonies, which I didn't quite get perfect...
The timing is also whack, but this song has potential... Might try again when my net is regular.
