Coffee Achievers

Right now, I'm reading a book about Ann and Nancy Wilson of the famous rock group, Heart.  I'm getting close to being finished with the book and will post a review-- probably on Pop Rock Nation first.  I had a funny experience reading last night, though.  Back in the 80s, there was a very strange and funny commercial that used to pitch coffee and implied that if you drink coffee, you'll be more successful.  Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart were featured on one of the ads for the "Coffee Achiever" ad.  They were paid extremely well for their participation-- according to Nancy, they got about $1 million.  She seems embarrassed about the ad, but they did get a hell of a paycheck for their few seconds on screen…

In this version from 1984, Heart appears...

Here, it appears that coffee helped Heart cut an album...

It's funny, too, because when this ad was on TV regularly, I used to think they had altered ELO's lyrics to "Hold on tight to your drink…" rather than "Hold on tight to your dreams."

This one features Kurt Vonnegut and a woman who sounds like she should be doing phone sex ads.

I wish we still had funny ads like this one… I haven't even seen the Hoveround ad lately.
