Shazam!

Every once in awhile, I get hot tips on music and books on the Recovery from Mormonism Web site.  Not long ago, I also got a hot tip on a free iPhone app called Shazam.  It's a music geek's dream.

Ever been somewhere and hear some music you like but can't identify?  It's happened to me quite a few times.  Before the advent of iTunes, I used to go out and buy CDs until I found the music.  Sometimes I wasn't successful and the song ended up branded on my mind for ages.

With Shazam, those days are mostly over.  When we were in Scotland, my husband and I visited several pubs.  Some of the pubs played some damn fine music that I was unfamiliar with.  I pulled out my iPhone, connected to Wi-Fi, and pressed the button on Shazam.  It "listened" to the music and determined what it was, even giving me the chance to purchase it from iTunes.

I came home from Scotland with quite a few new songs that I'll probably end up downloading.  Maybe I don't need to do that, given the fact that I already have a shitload of songs downloaded that I never have the chance to listen to.  But it's still a pretty cool app.  Kudos to the folks on RfM for pointing it out to me!
